Base Camp International Teaching | Day 1
Auf einen Blick
Teaching a course in English, internationalising the curriculum, educating students to become global citizens – the internationalisation of teaching presents a variety of challenges, both in the classroom and at the strategic and administrative level of university development.
On 3 and 4 December 2024, TU members who are involved in the internationalisation of teaching dealt with precisely these topics. As part of the Stärkung und Ausbau der internationalen Lehre (SAiL) [Strengthening and Expanding International Teaching] funding line, there was a lively exchange with experts and approaches and options for action for internationalisation projects in courses, degree programmes and institutes were discussed. The event was moderated by Dr Isabell Lisberg-Haag.

- Panel Discussion: Global Citizenship as an Educational Ideal – Ways to Implement It in Teaching at TU Braunschweig: Global Citizenship as an educational ideal is actively promoted at the Technical University of Braunschweig for all graduates, regardless of their discipline. This panel discussion will explore ways to practically implement this ideal in teaching and academic study. We will first clarify what Global Citizenship entails and the skills it requires, such as intercultural communication, global thinking, and responsible action. We will then discuss how different disciplines can work towards this goal and whether different approaches are necessary: Are STEM disciplines inherently more internationally focused? Are humanities and social sciences generally more interculturally sensitive? And how can this objective be achieved in degree programmes oriented towards specific regional markets, such as teacher education? These questions will be addressed through practical examples.
- Panel Members: Prof Dr Angela Ittel (President of TU Braunschweig), Dr Uwe Brandenburg (Managing Director of the Global Impact Institute, Prague), Prof Dr Georg Garnweitner (Institute for Particle Technology and Dean of Studies, Faculty of Mechanical Engineering), Prof Dr Eckart Voigts (Institute of English and American Studies and Dean of Studies, Faculty of Humanities and Educational Sciences)
